Tianjin, 15 Oct (Xinhua) -- The 37th annual meeting of the member countries of the World Health Organization's International Drug Monitoring Cooperation Program was held in Tianjin on 15 October. During the meeting, Shang Ti, head of the WHO Drug Safety and Vigilance Team, said that China has made remarkable progress in the monitoring of adverse drug reactions and has made important contributions to international cooperation in this field.
According to reports, a total of representatives from 53 countries and regions including China, the United States, and Japan attended the annual meeting, which is the first time that China has hosted the annual meeting since joining the cooperation program in 1998.
"China provides a large number of data reports for the global drug surveillance database." Shangdi said that in the field of monitoring adverse reactions of traditional medicines, including plant medicines such as Chinese herbal medicines, China, as a major country in the production, consumption and international trade of traditional medicines, also plays an important role.
Wu Jun, deputy director of the State Food and Drug Administration, said at the meeting that China has established three-level monitoring institutions at the national, provincial, prefectural and municipal levels. In addition to the national centres, there are nearly 400 monitoring agencies at the local level; The number of grassroots reporting users of the adverse reaction monitoring information system has reached 150,000, and real-time online reporting of adverse reaction cases has been realized. "In 2013, more than one million cases of adverse drug reactions were reported, and the ability of drug safety evaluation and the role of risk early warning are gradually improving."
When talking about the existing problems, Wu Jun said that China's drug monitoring and vigilance work started late, the foundation is relatively weak, and there are still many challenges in drug safety evaluation and risk management. "Through this annual meeting, China can learn from the advanced experience of other countries and improve the ability and level of drug monitoring and risk management." It is also hoped that in the future, all countries can continue to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in this field, jointly safeguard the safety of public drug use, and improve the health of people all over the world. ”
The reporter learned that in the early 60s of the 20th century, "reaction stop" was widely used as a drug to alleviate pregnancy reactions, resulting in the birth of a large number of "seal deformed babies". To this end, in 1968 the World Health Organization established the International Drug Monitoring Cooperation Pilot Program and established the International Drug Monitoring Collaborating Centre. Strengthen global drug surveillance vigilance through the collection and exchange of adverse drug reaction reports to ensure the safe use of medicines.
